Local teen awarded state gymnastics bar champion.

Auburn- She might be just 13-years-old but after Sunday’s performance in Redwood City, Calif. Allyson Osborn learned a lesson that will stay with her forever – hard work does pay off The Auburn Gymnastics Center level 5 won the

NorCal 2011 Level 5 State Championship title on bars scoring a whopping 9.5 and beating out more than 20 state title contenders on Sunday.
“She was so poised and calm the entire meet, competing first on beam, then floor, then vault. I looked over to her just before the bars and felt like I could hear her heart jumping out of her chest. Then, I looked over at her bar coach, Jennifer (Christenson) and I couldn’t tell who was more excited for her to go,” said coach, Natalie Otis.
“It was a beautiful routine.”
Osborn started gymnastics just a few short years ago getting serious after competing as a level 4 for Auburn Gymnastics Center. “She has always been a steady worker that just puts her head down and tries again and again to get it right,” Otis said. “She competed as a level 5 last season and did well, but this season she has cleaned up
winning nearly every meet in the all-around and taking home multiple gold medals on bars.”
Competing with Osborn on Sunday was teammate Kristen Kopp who placed on beam with an 8.75 and Emily Esteban who did her best on vault scoring an 8.75 as well.
“We are so proud of all of our state competitors – they make a lot of sacrifices and work three sometimes four days a week around the year,” Otis said. “These girls are learning an incredible work ethic that is unmatched in any sport for kids their age.”
Osborn finished the day fourth all-around with a 36.275 combined score on all four events and won the bronze on the beam with an 8.9. The level 4 team state competitiors will attend their meet in Dublin, Calif. next weekend.
