Auburn Gymnastics Center snags team title at National Gymnastics Festival

  AUBURN – Nine gymnasts from Auburn Gymnastics Center’s optional team competed at the National Gymnastics Festival held at the San Mateo County Event Center on January 29 and 30 with the X-Cel team taking top honors by winning first place team. The high point of the weekend came from four members of the X-Cel team Platinum that swept the competition winning first place on every event as well as the team gold.
   Haley Christenson earned a 35.675 with an 8.775 to win vault, a 9.05 to win bars, an 8.525 go her second on beam and a 9.325 earned her the first place on floor as well as the all-around. “It felt really good to go out there have fun and score well,” said the 16-year-old gymnast Haley Christenson. “This is a really fun team to be a part of and I am really loving gymnastics right now.”
   Teammates include Cassidy Noreen, Kaitlyn Woytus and Shelby Jungers. Cassidy Noreen won second place all-around with a 34.1 and Kaitlyn Woytus came in third with a 32.8 winning beam with an 8.55. Level 7 and 8 gymnasts competed in separate meets with level 8 Alice Neff winning second place all-around and second on beam with an 8.4
and second on floor with a 9.0. Level 8 Kellie Oestering placed on floor with an 8.925.
   Level seven girls – Janna Woodward, Devin Van Burkleo and Elizabeth Jordan – had their stand out day on floor with all earning a spot in the top 10. Jordan scored a 9.05, Woodward scored an 8.7 and Van Burkleo a 9.0.
   “This was out first gymnastics meet this year and the girls gave us their best,” Coach Natalie Otis said. “That is all we can ask for. I am really proud of the team and the gym.” The team competes again next weekend in Oroville.
