Level 7 gymnastics team wins silver at Mardi Gras Invite in Vallejo

AUBURN-In a nail biting competition on Saturday Auburn Gymnastics Center’s level 7 team clinched the second place team award celebrating a job well done.
The five person team of Devin VanBurkleo, Haley Christenson, Lizzy Jordan, Kendall Sprowl and Janna Woodward went head to head against six teams from Nevada to the Bay Area. The top three scores from each event were totaled then added together to make for a total team award. “We knew we needed everyone to put in 100 percent,” Coach, Natalie Otis said.
The team began the competition on bars where Christenson, Jordan and Woodward all delivered solid performances with no falls. The team then moved to beam where Jordan, Woodward and VanBurkleo stayed strong helping to inch the group into a solid position to finish the meet with floor and vault.
“Floor is one of our stronger events and the skills and energy were definitely there,” Otis said. “The team was cheering and clapping – everyone at the meet was watching.” Vault performances clinched the competition with every gymnast on the team helping win the silver. “This was a big confidence booster for these athletes – it is not an easy task at this level and they were strong and delivered,” Otis said.
