Seven-year-old Lauren Mohar of Auburn, center, and Kristen Newman, 14, of Auburn, left, celebrate the Auburn Elite All-star level two cheer team win on Sunday. Newman is on the girls level 2 cheer team at Auburn Gymnastics Center and Mohar is on the Auburn Elite Cheerstarz special needs team. Both girls competed on Sunday at the Nor Cal Cheer
competition where there were hundreds of cheerleaders in attendance.

AUBURN – Gymnasts and competitive cheerleaders turned out this weekend from Auburn Gymnastics Center to show their stuff.
The first of three gymnastics state competitions resulted in several top ten finishes for the level 6 girls at Auburn Gymnastics Center. Ten-year-old Janna Woodward of Meadow Vista, 11-year-old Kendall Sprowl of Auburn and 11-year-old Elizabeth Jordan of Auburn finished their four-month gymnastics season strong on Sunday in Leemore, Calif.
Woodward dazzled the judges on beam finishing fourth with a 9.125. “She did a stunning beam routine,” Coach Natalie

Otis said. “I was so proud. It is extremely difficult to perform your best at this level of competition and she was both a composed and aggressive competitor.” Woodward went on to place ninth in the all-around and tenth on the vault.
Jordan shined on the bars during her competition scoring an 8.7 and taking the fifth place title. Jordan also rose to the occasion delivering a solid performance on beam, scoring a 9.175. She took eighth place all-around. Sprowl, a first-time state competitor, earned a combined total of 33.75. Her best performance was on the floor where she earned an 8.625. “We are very please with the effort our gymnasts have put into their season this year,” Otis said. “Every one of these gymnasts have made the coaching staff very proud.” Auburn Gymnastics Center also sent two groups of competitive cheerleaders on the floor this weekend. The Auburn Elite All-Star Cheer team and the Auburn Elite Cheerstarz special needs cheer team. Both teams hit their routines, resulting in a pat on the back from the judges for a job well done. The Auburn Elite All-Star Cheer team won sixth place and the Auburn Cheerstarz received medals for their participation at the event hosted at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium on Sunday. “This was our second competition for the level two team and our first for the special needs team and I can honestly say that both performances brought me to tears on Sunday,” Otis said. “They were fantastic.”
